Questions we’re often asked
What is the difference between HPL and melamine board?
Melamine board is particle board or MDF with a resin-impregnated decor paper pressed straight onto its faces. It is the usual choice for wardrobe and kitchen carcasses, shelving and office furniture.
HPL (high-pressure laminate, often called Formica) is a thin, dense sheet made from layers of kraft paper and resin pressed at high pressure. It is glued onto a board wherever a harder-wearing surface is needed, such as doors, worktops, table tops and wall panels.
Which thicknesses can I order?
Partex melamine faced chipboard is listed at 6, 9, 12, 16, 18 and 25 mm. Super Board melamine board comes in 12, 15, 16, 18 and 25 mm, and its Formica and Ebonite HPL from 0.4 mm to 4 mm, with custom thicknesses on request. For Ahmed Wood Group boards, ask us for the thicknesses currently in stock.
What size are the sheets?
Partex and Super Board list a standard sheet of 8 × 4 ft (2440 × 1220 mm). Tell us your cutting list if you need help working out how many sheets a job takes.
How do I find a decor I saw in a catalogue or showroom?
Search the library by the code printed on the sample, for example 504, A7114 or 312, or by its name, such as Burma Teak. Part of a code works too: typing A71 shows the whole Ahmed Elegant range.
Will the board look exactly like the picture?
The images come from the manufacturers’ catalogues, and screens show colour differently, so use them to shortlist. Check a physical sample before you order, especially when matching boards from different batches.
How do I get a price?
Send the decor codes, thickness and quantity of each through the contact page, or describe the job in your message. We reply with availability and a quotation.
Have a list of codes or a drawing?
Send it over and we’ll come back with availability, thickness options and a quotation.
